Body Of Former Bank of Uganda Governor Gideon Nkojo Arrives Next Week

The family members of former Bank of Uganda Governor Gideon Nkojo have revealed that the body of the late will arrive in the country next week for official burial.

Nkojo died in November 2020 in Virginia, USA after being ill for some time. Nkojo served as Governor from May 1979 to September 1980, replacing Charles Nyonyintono Kikonyogo. By the time of his death, Nkojo was working with the World Bank in Washington DC, USA.

Family members say the body was supposed to have been returned on Tuesday, January 25, but COVID-19 restrictions coupled with the recent death of the Central Bank Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile presented some challenges.

Mutebile, the longest-serving Bank of Uganda Governor died on January 23, 2022, after 20 years in office. He was 72.

In a programme released by the family on Saturday, Nkojo’s body will arrive in the country on Sunday, February 27. A funeral service will be held at All Saints Cathedral on Monday, Feb 28.

According to the programme, the body will thereafter be transported to his home in Mirongo, Kijura Kabarole District for burial which will be held on March 1.
