The Board of Directors of Britam Asset Managers Company has announced the appointment of Sim Katende as new board chairperson, replacing Gladys Karuri who steered the organization for two years.
Sim is a Partner and Head of the Corporate and Commercial Department at Katende, Ssempebwa and Company Advocates, Uganda’s largest law firm.
He is admitted to practice as an Advocate in Uganda and also as an Attorney and Counsellor at Law in New York, the United States of America.
He is widely acknowledged as one of the leading transactional lawyers in East Africa with over 20 years’ multi-jurisdictional practice experience having worked in the U.S.A. South Africa and Uganda.
He has structured, negotiated and executed landmark transactions in the East and Sub-Saharan African region in the fields of Capital Markets, Banking and Finance, Technology, Media & Telecommunication, Insurance, Private Equity, PPPs & Project Finance and Energy, Oil & Gas.
He is internationally recognised as a Band I Star transaction Lawyer by Chambers and Partners Global Guide to the World’s Leading Lawyer for Business and IFLR 1000: Guide to the World’s Leading Financial Law Firms, the benchmark league tables for lawyers worldwide.
He sits on the Boards of Deacons (U) Ltd. McLeod Russell (U) Ltd. and other corporations.
Sim holds a Master of Laws (LLM) Degree from Columbia University in New York and a Bachelor of Laws (LL. B Hons) Degree from Makerere University.
