UDB gets global sustainable finance award

Uganda Development Bank (UDB) has been awarded the Global Finance Award for its outstanding contributions in the field of sustainable finance.

The Global Sustainable Finance Network is a membership-based global initiative that brings together financial institutions and other stakeholders committed to the advancement of sustainable finance.

The Global Sustainable Finance Awards honour financial institutions and related organizations and Presidents/ CEOs with significant contributions to the field of sustainable banking and finance.

The awards aim to provide recognition to financial institutions that have successfully embedded economic, social and environmental sustainability into their organizational culture.

Uganda’s ambassador to Germany Marcel Tibaleka received the award n behalf of UDB at a ceremony held in Karlsrule, Germany.

The ceremony was held within the framework of the annual Global Sustainable Finance Conference. The conference was co-hosted by European Union Strategy for Sustainable Development (EOSD) and UDB together with the long-time partners – the City of Karlsruhe, the Associations of Development Financing Institutions in Africa (AADFI), Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP) and in member countries of the Islamic Development Bank (ADFIMI), and other allies.

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, who attended the ceremony via video conferencing applauded UDB for its contribution to development.

His Excellency, the Lord Mayor of Karlsruhe Dr. Frank Mentrup congratulated Ambassador Tibaleka, the Government of Uganda on Uganda Development Bank Ltd becoming a Sustainability-Certified Financial Institution.
